The Q-Mharc Gnó le Gaeilge can only be obtained by meeting the criteria as set out in the Q-Mharc Gnó le Gaeilge Standard. The standard describes in detail the minimum criteria required from any business organisation, wishing to obtain the Q-Mharc Gnó le Gaeilge award.
The standard has four core principles:

Project Development:
Make participants aware that bilingualism will be implemented on a step-by-step basis; determine the resources available and the resources needed to achieve the objectives of the language policy.

Implement:
Adopt key structures, processes and activities necessary and relevant to the business working towards bilingualism.

Assessment:
Ensure the structures, processes and activities have been implemented correctly and are working.
04
Maintain:
Maintaining structures in place to ensure compliance to the Q-Mharc Gnó le Gaeilge standard over three years.
